When it comes to walking for health and fitness, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ walks the walk — just ask the 1,800 or so members of the Aggies On the Move walking program.
So, no doubt a lot of the Aggies On the Move — and we hope everyone else, too — will be interested in a UC-wide event May 19: UC Walks.
Coinciding with National Employee Health and Fitness Day, UC Walks is the first systemwide health and wellness event targeted specifically at faculty and staff.
You can take your walk whenever you want, of course, but the UC Walks organizers on the Davis campus also have arranged for two gathering places where you can meet up with people to walk with, and even get a free T-shirt (while supplies last; UC Davis identification required).
• East Quad Farmers Market (and, while you are there, why not pick up some fruits and vegetables?)
• Activities and Recreation Center (meet in front)
Aggies On the Move and other volunteers will be at both sites from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to organizers, who added that a few walk leaders also will be stationed at each site.
If you plan to go for a walk, organizers said, be sure to bring a water bottle (reusable is always better!).
The T-shirts, provided by two of the UC system’s benefits providers, StayWell and Kaiser Permanente, are in medium, large and extra large sizes.
Oh, and one more thing: Davis campus organizers are hoping some of you UC Walks participants will arrange to have someone take a picture of you, by yourself or with your group.
Organizers said they are often in need of photos for presentations and websites. Send your photos to wellness@shs.ucdavis.edu or post them in your own workplaces as a reminder to get out and celebrate wellness!
