The campus community is invited to honor the nation’s veterans next week as Veterans Day expands into Veterans Week through a series of events hosted by the Veterans Success Center.
AT A GLANCE
Veterans Week activities
- Monday, Nov. 4, noon-2 p.m.: Tie yellow ribbons on the Quad. Open to all. The activity will be moved to same time the following day in case of rain.
- Wednesday, Nov. 6: Vet Net Ally training for new career staff and faculty. The event has reached capacity.
The week will kick off with an activity — open to all — tying yellow ribbons around 100-plus trees on the Quad.
The tradition began in 2011 as a way to show public support for veterans and active-duty service members, adding to the long history of yellow ribbons as a way to show support for members of the nation’s armed forces.
On Nov. 6, the annual Vet Net Ally Training will be held for new faculty and staff, teaching them about the campus’ population of veterans, and the best ways to support them. The event has reached capacity and registration is closed.
Chancellor Gary S. May last year showed his support for veterans and encouraged participation in Veterans Week activities through , director of Transfer and Veteran Services.
“All week, we honor our staff, faculty and student veterans who served in the armed forces,” May said.
The university will be closed on Nov. 11 in observation of Veterans Day.
