The name Dinny for ºÙºÙÊÓƵ' 2008 wine vinegar comes from the late Albert Dinsmoor Webb -- better known as Dinny.
He came to ºÙºÙÊÓƵ in 1941 as a technician for Professor Maynard Amerine in the Department of Viticulture and Enology. Webb joined the faculty in 1948, teaching chemistry and enology. He was chair of the Department of Viticulture and Enology from 1973 to 1981, and took emeritus status in 1982. He died in 2003 at age 85.
He made vinegar for his colleagues, and the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ olive oil operation is honoring him by putting his name on the campus's second annual vinegar bottling.
Olive oil manager Dan Flynn said: "The name Dinny really hits the mark from a historical perspective."
