Outgoing Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef and his wife, Rosalie, are inviting faculty, staff and students to an open house June 5 at the Chancellor’s Residence. Soon the Vanderhoefs will vacate the home, as the chancellor steps down from his post after 15 years. As much as the open house provides people with an opportunity to give their regards to the Vanderhoefs, the event also gives the chancellor and his wife the opportunity to say thank you to the campus community. The open house is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. in the home’s courtyard, site of hundreds of official university functions. The Chancellor’s Residence is at 16 College Park, the cul-de-sac opposite Howard Way at the Davis campus’s northern boundary. Organizers said everything at the open house is being donated or paid for with donations. That includes cookies and lemonade, organizers said, plus music by Police Chief Emeritus Calvin Handy and his band, Jazz Patrol. The Vanderhoefs are pictured recently in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, site of a May 30 concert in their honor by Broadway star Patti LuPone. The 8 p.m. concert is open to the public, and tickets were still available as of May 27: (530) 754-2787 or (866) 754-2787, or www.mondaviarts.org.
