Writers in the Garden: Celebrating nature and the arts

Local writers visit the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Arboretum for its Writers in the Garden series, starting May 6 with a visit by Karen Joy Fowler and continuing May 20 with a visit by Matt Biers-Ariel.

May 6 -- Fowler, the novelist and short story writer from Davis, will read from her work and talk about the importance of the natural world in her writing. She is the author of Sarah Canary and The Jane Austen Book Club.

May 20 -- Biers-Ariel of Davis is the author of books on Judaism and the environment, including The Seven Species, Solomon and the Trees, Spirit in Nature and The Triumph of Eve and Other Subversive Bible Tales.

Both programs are free and open to the public. Starting time is 7 p.m., with earlier picnicking invited. Location is Wyatt Deck, adjacent to the redwood grove along Old Davis Road. Parking is $6; the best option is Lot 5, Old Davis Road and A Street.
