About halfway into the exercise class she was leading from her family’s home in Sebastopol, student Kate Stewart approached the smartphone that was streaming the workout on Facebook Live.
“We’re doing so good,” the senior said. Motioning between the device and her heart, she continued, “It’s so weird not seeing you, but, you know, we’re moving together!”

Stewart, a clinical nutrition major who is minoring in exercise biology, is among about 200 student employees who are helping make the regular offerings of — and more — available online through .
Aggies at Home offers workouts both live and on-demand, ranging from yoga to Zumba. But it also offers guides for getting outdoors, relaxation tips, suggestions for creative activities, sessions on eating healthy at home, and resources on relationship and sexual health.
The classes are broadcast publicly for free, and can be viewed by students and others.
Deb Johnson, director of Campus Recreation, said the goals of Aggies at Home are to continue to support the recreation and well-being of Aggies and to provide work student employees can do remotely.
Like most fitness instructors for Campus Recreation, Stewart is certified and experienced at leading classes. But also like most Aggies this quarter, she is making adjustments to challenges like leading a class without seeing the participants, and learning new skills like the technology required to broadcast the classes.
“I like to challenge myself to do new things,” Stewart said. “Hopefully, it will help to keep me and other people active, too.”
