The division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion recently honored a number of students, faculty and staff for helping to bring the Principles of Community to life and make the university a more inclusive place.

The recipients of the Diversity and Principles of Community Awards, Disability Awareness Awards, Calvin Handy Leadership Award and Chancellor's Achievement Awards for Diversity and Community were honored in two separate events last month.

�ٺ��Ƶ’ Soaring to New Heights program soared back to life May 26 after a one-year absence, bestowing two years’ worth of Diversity and Principles of Community Awards and Disability Awareness Awards, for 202 and 2021, and the Calvin E. Handy Leadership Award for 2021.

Soaring to a Better Campus, Better World

�ٺ��Ƶ held its 29th annual Soaring to New Heights last week, honoring staff and faculty who, as stated by Associate Executive Vice Chancellor Rahim Reed, “represent our highest aspirations, dreams and desires to leave this world better than we found it.”

They are the recipients of this year’s Diversity and Principles of Community Awards, Disability Awareness Awards, and the Calvin Handy Leadership Award.

The Royal Society of Chemistry recently awarded its 2017 Inclusion and Diversity Prize to chemistry professor Dean Tantillo and alumnus Hoby “Henry” Wedler for their work to make chemistry accessible to blind students. Wedler, blind since birth, received his Ph.D. as a student of Tantillo’s.

Now’s the time to get your tickets to soar!

We’re talking about Soaring to New Heights, �ٺ��Ƶ’ premier diversity celebration for staff and faculty. This year’s event, the 27th annual, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, in The Pavilion at the Activities and Recreation Center.

The event will feature a resource fair, entertainment and international buffet lunch, 11:15 to 1:30 p.m., and awards presentation from 12:20 to 1 p.m.
