Last week鈥檚 safety walk wasn鈥檛 just about ensuring the Davis campus is well lit at night. It was also about shining a light on the university as a hate-free zone.

Letter Addresses Incident on Unitrans Bus

Adela de la Torre, vice chancellor, Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, joined by Mariah Watson, the ASUCD鈥檚 outgoing president, and Anthony Palmere, Unitrans general manager, issued this letter to the campus community on March 4, addressing an incident that occurred earlier in the week on a Unitrans bus.

Police Make Arrests in Alleged Hate Crime

Two men stand accused of a hate crime in connection with an African American student鈥檚 report that she was assaulted early Monday (Feb. 15) at 嘿嘿视频 West Village, campus police said. Officers arrested three men altogether, none of them with 嘿嘿视频 affiliation.

Police said the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. as the student walked near her residence in West Village. Chief Matt Carmichael gave no further details, except to say this was not a sexual assault and that the student did not require medical aid.

The student called police, leading to the arrests.

Campus Leaders Denounce Hate Crime

Dear 嘿嘿视频 Campus Community:

It is deeply distressing that one of our own, an African American 嘿嘿视频 student, was the victim of a hate crime that occurred near the student鈥檚 home early this morning on campus. We are fortunate that the student was able to call 嘿嘿视频 police, who responded immediately and successfully arrested three male suspects, two of whom were charged with assault and committing a hate crime.

The alleged perpetrators are from the Sacramento area and are not 嘿嘿视频 students.
