Arrest Following Kidnapping and Assault

�ٺ��Ƶ police have arrested a suspect following an assault and kidnapping reported last Monday, Aug. 12. James Garvin surrendered at the �ٺ��Ƶ police department at 5 p.m., Aug. 20. He was booked at Yolo County jail on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment and assault with great bodily injury.

Emergency Call Station Count Hits 20

Chancellor Gary S. May this week commented further on his formation of the Next Generation Reforms to Advance Campus Safety Task Force, saying “we have today an opportunity for significant and truly meaningful change, and that we must seize it.”

The opportunity arose out of nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, another in a long line of Black men and women dying at the hands of police or while in police custody, as was the case with Floyd, who died after an officer kept his knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes, 46 seconds.

May today (June 11) announced the formation of a Next Generation Reforms to Advance Campus Safety Task Force to discuss and assess how the university’s Police Department should evolve to look, operate and engage on both the Davis and Sacramento campuses.

Crimes occur in every community, even in a friendly environment like the �ٺ��Ƶ campus. The most commonly reported crime on our campus is property theft. For example, police are now investigating a dozen burglaries in Bainer Hall since Sept. 9, in which the culprit or culprits forced open doors to labs and offices during weekends. Cameras, computer monitors, tools and other items are missing.

�ٺ��Ƶ this week (Sept. 30) released its Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998.
