Suspect Still At Large as Shelter in Place Is Lifted

Updated 5:50 a.m.: Police have concluded their search for the suspect in a stabbing that took place in the city of Davis overnight and lifted the shelter in place order. The suspect was not located.

City of Davis police issued a message lifting the shelter in place at 5:17 a.m.

Tulare Lab Facility Closed Due to Flooding

The California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) lab in Tulare has been closed since March 16 due to flooding. �ٺ��Ƶ staff have been able to visit the site with the assistance of the Tulare County Office of Emergency Services and local first responders. They are currently assessing damage and planning cleanup efforts.

There is currently no estimate on when the lab will reopen. Clients are being advised to submit samples to other CAHFS locations in Davis, Turlock and San Bernardino.

Bear Sighted on Campus

�ٺ��Ƶ police issued a WarnMe alert early on Wednesday morning after a bear was sighted on campus. The bear was reported by a member of the public in the Arboretum area about 5:40 a.m.

Police advised people to avoid the area while they responded. Sadly, just after 7 a.m. the California Highway Patrol advised that the bear was killed attempting to cross the freeway at the ramp from westbound Interstate 80 to Highway 113.

Bear Caught in the Morning, Freed 5 Hours Later

Updated 2:15 p.m. June 4: The bear captured on campus this morning has been released back into the wild by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. Officials said they released the bear “to the closest suitable habitat.”

“CDFW staff is happy for the positive outcome,” the agency said in a Facebook post at 1:20 p.m. “It’s not often that we see a wayward bear in Aggie territory!”

Wind Advisory in Effect, Cold Weather Expected

Please be aware that Davis and surrounding areas are expected to experience severe weather over the next few days. A wind advisory is in effect today (Dec. 15) and will expire 6 p.m. this evening, with heavy rains expected to continue throughout the night.
