The university's officially licensed beer has a new look and a new name: Gunrock American Lager.

The light-bodied beer, brewed by Sudwerk Brewing Co. of Davis, was released in small batches last fall. The recipe has since been tweaked and "dialed in," Sudwerk co-owner and operations manager Trent Yackzan said.

The University of California, Davis, a world leader in brewing science and education, is now one of the few universities nationwide to have its own branded beer. It has teamed up with Sudwerk Brewing Co. of Davis to launch a light-bodied lager called Gunrock, named after the university’s iconic mascot, a blue mustang.

Cheers to �ٺ��Ƶ and our new beer! Yes, indeed, as a world leader in brewing science and education, we are rolling out a �ٺ��Ƶ-branded beer. It’s a light-bodied lager called Gunrock, and it’ll be for sale at The Pavilion at the ARC when the men’s basketball team opens its home season, Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The name, of course, comes from our mascot — named after a Thoroughbred racehorse from our storied past as the University Farm. Other parts of the beer are all �ٺ��Ƶ, too:
