Scooters and Bikes: Charge Off Campus, Lock Up Outdoors

Transportation Services and other campus partners are providing a reminder that bikes, scooters and other wheeled devices cannot be ridden, charged or stored indoors.

Those devices — both electric and non-electric — are everywhere on campus, but this quarter has seen a significant uptick in people riding and charging transportation devices indoors, posing safety concerns.

When the Aggie went from a print paper to online only two years ago, the racks that held the papers all over campus went out of use too.

But with the return of a print newspaper came a new problem. Distribution racks.

Still Platinum: �ٺ��Ƶ Again Earns Top Bicycle Friendly University Status

�ٺ��Ƶ was the second university to be named a Platinum Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists four years ago, and now it's had that status renewed.

“This is �ٺ��Ƶ’ second Platinum Bicycle Friendly University designation and in many ways it feels even more special than the first,” said Clifford Contreras, director of �ٺ��Ƶ Transportation Services, or TAPS.

�ٺ��Ƶ, City of Davis Host International Cycling Safety Conference

Making the streets safer for cyclists and promoting cycling for all are goals of the International Cycling Safety Conference, to be held Sept. 21-22 at the University of California, Davis, Conference Center. It is the first time that the conference has been held in the U.S. and appropriately enough, it’s coming to the nation’s premier cycling city.

The conference attendees include experts in urban planning, mechanical and civil engineering, data science, sociology and behavior.

Students! Forget About Your Hair, Wear Helmets!

There are a few things Aggies can count on every fall: A lot of new students, a lot of bicycles, and not very many bike helmets.

Student Health and Counseling Services, the campus unit that provides medical services to students and operates the on-campus urgent care clinic, wants to change that.

“The majority of accidents urgent care sees are bike crashes,” said Shantille Connolly ’11, wellness health educator.

They began their journey five days earlier by dipping the rear wheels of their bikes in the Pacific Ocean at San Francisco.
