As remote instruction was thrust on faculty at universities all over the country this spring, different strategies emerged on how to convert in-person courses.

Now that spring quarter is well past the halfway point and students have settled in to digital learning environments, what are the takeaways? Faculty members are sharing lessons learned, and some students have clear preferences, too.

Faculty Move Courses Online

When spring quarter starts at �ٺ��Ƶ today (March 30), students will log in rather than arrive on campus. Their syllabi will have new sections devoted to virtual office hours, online etiquette and how exams will be proctored remotely.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, classes at many institutions across the globe have moved online, creating an unprecedented situation for everyone. At �ٺ��Ƶ, Chancellor Gary S. May announced on March 15 that spring instruction would go online, giving faculty members about two weeks to redevelop their course plans.

C-STEM Center Providing Free Tools, Teacher Resources for Distance Learning in Math

With many K-12 schools closed nationwide, teachers and students can now get free access to tools for online learning in mathematics and computer science from the Center for Integrated Computing and STEM Education, or C-STEM, at the University of California, Davis.

The California Department of Education has told school districts to plan for distance learning, said C-STEM Center Director Harry Cheng, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at �ٺ��Ƶ.

$1M Grant for �ٺ��Ƶ-Led Online Learning Project
